Mary Abshier Ward

Mary Abshier Ward, 88, of Winnie, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011, at The Arboretum of Winnie.

She was born September 13, 1923, in Mansfield, Louisiana, to Eldridge and Ida Simmons Gathright, and had been a resident of the Winnie area since 1955.

Mrs. Ward is survived by her loving husband, Claude A. Ward of Winnie; son, Dallas A. Burgess and his wife, Debbie of Winnie; daughters,  Jackie Pratt and her husband, Ronny of Judsonia, Arkansas and Marilyn Holt of Winnie; her sister, Janie Thornton of Gun Barrel City; step-sons, Kent Ward and his wife, Beth and LaVelle and his wife, Jean, all of Houston; grandchildren, Dale Pratt, Shelia Douglas, Diana Land, Darrick and Heather Holt, Allen Burgess, Scott Ward, Tara Allen, Brent and Bradley Ward; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Cody and Hannah Pratt, Shelby and Hailee Douglas, Hannah Holt, Halleigh Hannah, Bailey Reese and Anna Lea Burgess, Layla Ward and Cooper Ward, Taryn, Braden and McKennae Allen, Kathleen, Drake and Payton Ward; great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Wyatt Pratt.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Myra Soper; and grandson, Jeffrey Jones.

Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive, Winnie with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Broussard’s.
