Benford A. “Junior” Best, 82, of Lumberton, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Village Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lumberton. Benford was born in Woodville on March 1, 1929, to James Fletcher and Annie Floy (Maclin) Best. He was a retired operator with Gulf Oil in Port Arthur with thirty-eight years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Benford was also a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Kountze.
He is survived by his wife, Yong Son Pak Best of Lumberton; children, Darrell Kent Best and his wife, Jan of Lumberton, Marilyn Kay Everett and her husband, David of Bridge City, and Russell Keith Best of Austin; brother, James Best of Alabama; step-brother, Edward Best of Hemphill; sister, Annie Elise Combs of Beaumont; grandchildren, Ryan Best, Scott Everett, Brock Everett and his wife, Jeanette, Lacey Best, and Sasha Best.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Kountze, 100 W. Monroe with burial to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze. A gathering of his family and friends will be Friday, April 22, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Broussard’s
