Mary Ann Rose-Purkey, 84, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at South Austin Hospital, located in Austin, Texas. Born January 27, 1927 in Nederland to Homer Lee & Annie Bruinsma Holcombe, Mary was a descendent of one the early Dutch families in Nederland. She was a retired LVN, the past President of the Nederland Chapter American Legion Auxiliary, and long time member of First United Methodist Church in Nederland and Friendship Sunday School class. She was also a member of Nederland Chapter 1079 Order of Eastern Star.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Rose Junot and her husband George, of Sulphur, Louisiana and Lisa Rose Horton and her husband Eual Dewain, of Buda, Texas and Frankie Purkey Hornbuckle and her husband Randy of Lumberton; five grandchildren, Jennifer Junot Johnson and her husband Jason of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Ben Junot of Plano, Texas, Kyle Horton and his wife Roxanne of Austin, Texas, Kevin Horton and his wife Judy of Kyle, Texas and Alyssa Warrington and her husband Bill of Kountze, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Luke Johnson, Seth Horton, Aaden Horton, Ashton Warrington, and Billy Warrington and two more great-grandchildren on the way. Along with a host of dear family and special friend Margaret Haynes.
She is preceded in death by her parents Homer Lee & Annie Bruinsma Holcombe, her first husband of 47 years James E. Rose, second husband Forrest Shields Purkey, son Eddie Purkey, grandson George Edward Junot, Jr., and her very dear friend Beatrice Richard Junot.
Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, 505 12th Street, Nederland, with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of her family and friends will be Friday, April 15, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
