Verla Lewis

Verla Lewis, 82, of Nederland died February 12, 2011, at Magnolia Manor in Groves.  She was born February 22, 1928, in Toledo, Ohio and resident of the area for over sixty years. Verla was the daughter of Ada Troup and Merl Yoder.  She was a member of Golden Friends of First United Methodist Church in Nederland. Verla enjoyed playing cards with her friends and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her son, Richard W. “Rusty” Lewis and his wife Lorie of Nederland; daughters, Linda Franke and her husband Henry and Lori Matt and her husband Nicky all of Nederland and Louann Hudson and her husband Sonny of Irving; brother, Norman Yoder of Indiana; sister, Evelyn Williamson of DeRidder, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Jerry Lewis and his wife Joyce of DeRidder, Louisiana; and grandchildren, Alec Lewis, Noah Lewis, Drew Hudson, Adam Hudson, Logan Matt, Lindsay Matt and Lauren Matt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard W. “Brud” Lewis; and brother, Wendell Yoder.

Her graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Lewis Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland.  A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Broussard’s.

The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Barbara Melancon, Betty DuPuy and Kathy McFarland, along with the staff of Magnolia Manor and Odyssey Hospice for all of their kind and compassionate care
