John E. Carroll, 83, of Beaumont, died Monday, January 24, 2011. Born March 6, 1927 in Dallas, he was the son of Mertice Reed and Johnny Paul Carroll and since 1985 was a resident of the Beaumont area. John served in the United States Army for five years during World War II he reenlisted in the United States Air Force from which he retired as a master sergeant after twenty-five years of dedicated service. John then retired from the City of Beaumont at the age of seventy-two.
Survivors include his son, Johnny E. Carroll and his wife Carol of Piper City, Illinois; daughters, Marjorie Denney and her husband Larry of Bellwood, Nebraska, Mertice Garrett and her husband Edgar of Swansea, Illinois, and Melanie Sanford and her husband Bill of Beaumont; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters, Sister Mertice Anne Eugene of Los Angeles, California and Patsy Roth of Colorado; and brother, Toby Freeman of Colorado.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie C. Carroll; and his parents.
His graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 27, 2011, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Christian Vigil at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Broussard’s.
