Katherine Petkovsek Key
March 10, 1925 - January 21, 2011

Katherine Petkovsek Key, 85, of Beaumont died Friday, January 21, 2011, at her residence.  A native and lifelong Beaumont resident, she was born March 10, 1925, to Edith Inez (Taylor) and Lucas Petkovsek. After raising her family she was an attendance clerk with Beaumont Independent School District.

 

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Anne Young and her husband Jack of Hobbs, New Mexico and their children Courtney Young-Law and her husband Chris of San Francisco, Brent Young and his wife Leighanne of Tyler, and Carter Young of Lubbock;  Mara Key of Beaumont and  her children Ashley Fillips and her husband Drew of Austin, Haley Koop of Austin, Keylee Koop of San Marcos, and Heath Koop of Beaumont; David Key and his wife Anne of Austin and children Darcy Keller of Brooklyn and William Josa of Austin; and Thomas Key and Mackenzie Key of Baytown.   She is also survived by great-grandson, Calder Law; and she was anxiously awaiting the birth of her second and third great grandchildren..

 

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Clare Petkovsek, Verdie Petkovsek, and Verna Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Lucas and Edith Petkovsek; son, James W. Key; husband, William C. Key; and brothers, Lucas Petkovsek, Jr., Martin H. Petkovsek, and James E. Petkovsek.

 

She was a caring friend, an attentive wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known as Dee to her family; a name given to her as a young child by her older brother, Luke, who could not say Sissy.  She was fondly known as DeeDee to her grandchildren

 

In her later years she volunteered at Holy Family Retreat Center.  She was involved in the forty-nine+ St. Anne’s Seniors and also enjoyed her weekly bridge game with her friends.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Street, Beaumont followed by a reception in the parish hall.  Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.  A Christian Vigil will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Broussard’s on McFaddin.
