Sam E. Weatherford, 86, of Nederland died January 12, 2011 at Cypress Glen Nursing Home in Port Arthur. Born December 15, 1924 in Sealy, Texas, and resident of the area since 1961, Sam was the son of Mary and Elihue Weatherford. He is a United States World War II Army veteran having been a prisoner of war. He was employed with Goodyear Chemical as a production supervisor. Sam was a hard worker and good family man and he enjoyed barbecuing, gardening and square dancing with the Hitchhikers Club in Nederland.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Anna Lee Weatherford of Nederland; daughters, Vicki Sistrunk and her husband Dennis and Sue Jordan and her husband Victor all of Nederland; brother, Eugene Weatherford of Morris, Oklahoma; sisters, Ruby Lira, Josephine Green, and Barbara Bradford all of Sun City, Arizona; grandchildren, Joe Bass of Nederland and Erin Higginbotham and her husband Andrew of South Lake; and great grandchildren, Sam Bass and Riley Higginbotham. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Weatherford; and sisters, Viola Smith and Ola Mae Blount.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s 505 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday evening, January 15, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
