Pedro “Pete” Thomas Guerrero, 61, of Nederland died Friday, January 07, 2011, at his residence surrounded by his family and friends. A native of Mason, Texas, Pete was born February 17, 1949 to Matilde and Estela (Aguilar) Guerrero. A Nederland resident for fifty years, he was a longshoreman with ILA Local 25. An avid boxer, he was a Golden Gloves champion and helped coach at Menchaca Boxing Academy. A Vietnam veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Marine Corp. boxing team. He will be remembered as a loving father, a good friend, and a generous man.
Survivors include his daughters, Trina Renee’ Ibarra of Port Arthur and Tabitha “Tabby” Figueroa of Nederland; son, Dustin Thomas Guerrero of Nederland; step-sons, Deric Lee Jacob of Nederland and Benny Ray Kaufman of Port Neches; mother, Estela Guerrero of Nederland; brothers, Nick Guerrero of Groves, Andy Guerrero of Providence, Rhode Island, and Danny Ray “Taco” Guerrero of Groves; sisters, Jovita “Jovi” Esquivel of Alvin and Mary Rose Williams of Nederland; grandchildren, Freddie, Gabriel, Zachary, Melanie, Nicholas, and Cadance; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Matilde Guerrero; sister, Antonia Guerrero; and brother, Luis Guerrero.
His funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland with burial to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port. Neches. A gathering of his family and friends will be Saturday, January 8, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. at Broussard’s.
