Herman Horwitz

Herman Horwitz
August 15, 1918 - September 27, 2010

 

Herman Horwitz, 92, formerly of Beaumont, died September 27, 2010, at his residence in Larkspur, Colorado. He was born August 15, 1918, to Jacob and Tauble Lowenberg Horwitz.

 

Herman attended public schools in Port Arthur, technical schools in Chicago and Lamar University. He was employed with Texas Gulf Sulphur as an instrument designer.  His life’s careers included a musician with both trumpet and violin, a jeweler and a pneumatic instrument designer.  He was also a World War II Veteran as a musician in the Army-Air Force band and a pilot.  During his swing musician era he played with such orchestras as Bobby Day, Les Brown and Ray Anthony.  He enjoyed his music until the last moments of his life.

 

He is survived by his wife, Rosalind Phillipson Horwitz; son, Dr. Larry Horwitz and daughter-in-law, Mary Horwitz, of Larkspur, Colorado; daughters, Kay Stein of San Antonio, Gail Eldridge of Houston, and Betty Babendure of Houston; and two generations of grand and great-grand children.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nathan Horwitz and Jake Horwitz; sisters, Miriam Silversteen and Selma Horwitz; and his wife Mary Jane Horwitz.

 

His graveside service was held Sunday, October 24, 2010, at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.
