Stuart Joseph Guyote
February 19, 1935 - October 16, 2010
Stuart Joseph Guyote, 75, of Beaumont, Texas, died Saturday, October 16, 2010, at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.
Stuart Joseph Guyote was born on February 19, 1935 in Charenton, Louisiana to June Ida Chauvin and Sterling Joseph Guyote. Stuart was the eldest of seven to a sugar cane foreman in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. He attended Hanson Memorial High School, run by the Christian Brothers. After graduation, he entered the Christian Brothers Seminary to discern his life in vocations. When the Korean War broke out, he felt the need to join his “brothers” in defending his country and entered into the United States Marine Corps.
During his assignment at Camp Pendleton, he fell in love with Jeanette Michiko Haimoto. They married on December 18, 1956, in San Francisco, California. After ten years of Marine Corps service, he worked for NASA in the Chrysler Division in New Orleans, Louisiana. Later, he re-enlisted into the United States Air Force. The Air Force took him and his family overseas to Okinawa, Japan. Two years later, the family moved on to Keesler AFB, Mississippi. The next move took the family across the United States to Washington State, followed by a TDY tour Korea. Finally, the Guyote family moved back to Keesler AFB, Mississippi where Stuart completed the remainder of his enlistment as an instructor in basic electronics and teaching night school at Biloxi High School. Stuart attended Ole Miss where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and earned a place on the Deans List. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Psychology from University of Michigan extension.
After twenty-two years of military service, he retired and brought his family to Bridge City, where he worked for B.F. Goodrich. Meanwhile (and after retirement), he returned to his love of teaching as catechist at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City and St. Mary Catholic Church in Fannett. In addition to serving his church, he also served his community by becoming a substitute teacher and the ISS teacher at Bridge City Intermediate School. Stuart saw a need to help young people overcome the hurdles that caused their frustration in education. He was a very intelligent instructor who particularly loved Science and History. Through all of his endeavors, he was and still is admired by many.
Stuart Guyote was a devoted husband and father, who loved God, Michiko, family, country and teaching (in that order). Through-out his adult life, he taught religious education. As the children became older and showed interest and talent in music, he fostered a calling for the family to serve together ~ singing in the Catholic Mass. At Keesler AFB, the family became known as the “Trapp Family of Keesler AFB.”
Stuart Guyote nurtured his family in faith, education and responsibility through his example. As a result, four of his children enlisted in the United States Air Force and two enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by his best friend and sweetheart, Jeanette Michiko Haimoto Guyote; his children, Denise Guyote Broussard and her husband Paul of Fannett, Theresa Guyote Luciano and her husband Richard of Rochester, New York, June Guyote Rudd of Houston, Erich Guyote and his wife Gena of Port Neches, and Bruce Guyote and his wife April of Blaine, Washington; fourteen grandchildren, Kevin Broussard of Beaumont, Lauren Guyote of Winchester, Tennesse, Ericha Guyote and Kaleigh Guyote, both of Port Neches, Sarah Guyote of Hurst, Katherine Guyote of Dallas, Richard Guyote of Minnesota, Camille Guyote of Blaine, Washington, Jasmine Chunfat of Kailua, Hawaii, Jamie Luciano and Lisa Raymond both of South Hadley, Massachusetts, Kelly Waydeles of Rochester, New York, Amanda Rudd and Michael Rudd both of Houston; six great-grandchildren, Sandra Waydeles of Rochester, New York, Aden Raymond of Massachusetts, Riley Guyote of Maine, Beila Guyote and Emily Vargas both of Dallas, and Taylyn Guyote of Winchester, Tennessee; two sisters, Margaret Lancon, and Corliss Ramirez and her husband Garfield all of New Iberia, Louisiana; and brother, Huey Guyote and his wife Judy of St. Martinsville, Louisiana.
