Katie Corene Wheeler, 99, of Sour Lake died Thursday, December 3, 2009, at her residence. Katie was born in Saratoga, Texas on February 20, 1910, to James and Mary Ellen (Flowers) Walker. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Sour Lake for seventy-nine years.
She is survived by her children, Roxie Ann Jones and her husband Raymond of Kirbyville, Ellen Joyce Jones and her husband Sam of Graham, Texas, and Archie Ray Wheeler and his wife Dorothy, Charles Thomas Wheeler and his wife JoAnn, and Robert Earl Wheeler and his wife Dora, all of Sour Lake; sister, Addie Votaw of Sour Lake; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Edgbert Wheeler and son, James Edgbert Wheeler.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Sour Lake with Reverend Bill Fabriguze and Reverend Ken Ellzey officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Sour Lake. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, December 6, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze.
