Nathan E. Bibb
August 2, 1938 - December 4, 2016

Nathan E. Bibb, 78, of China, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Chi St. Luke’s Medical Center, Houston.  He was born on August 2, 1938, in Louisiana, to Rosa Bell Clement Bibb and Blakely William Bibb, and had been a longtime resident of China. Nathan graduated from French High School, Class of 1956. He retired from GSU/Entergy as an engineer in 1995 after forty years of employment. Nathan was co-founder and leader of the North China 4H Club from 1970-1978. He served on the Finance Committee for China United Methodist Church for thirty years, the China Cemetery Committee since 1976, and also on the Meeker Water District board for several years. Nathan was a member of Masonic Lodge 1370, the National Rifle Association, and was an IBEW Steward. He was an avid chess player and enjoyed his horses and cattle.

 

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Bibb, of China; children, Julie Faye Mead, of Lufkin; Lori Lee Sanders, of Sour Lake; Jodie Ellen Brown and her husband, Curtis, of Longview; Christopher Simmons and his wife, Melissa, of Valdosta, Georgia; Rinda Phelps and her husband, Daryl, of China; Joby Simmons and his wife, Wendy, of Daphne, Alabama; and Preston Simmons and his wife, Sherri, of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Blake West, Jordan Brown, Hannah Barnes, Rebekah Brown, Katie Brown, Carmen Sanders, Devon Simmons, Hayden Simmons, Logan Edwards, Cody Edwards, Charis Phelps, Rolan Phelps, Will Simmons, Wade Simmons, Nate Simmons, and Amber Simmons; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Wayne Bibb and his wife, Carolee, of Kountze.

 

A gathering of Mr. Bibb’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016, at China United Methodist Church, 205 West Washington Avenue, China. A private family committal will be held at a later date.
