Ruby May Hardy Thornton, 96, of Lumberton, died Monday, October 10, 2016, at Silsbee Oaks Healthcare, Silsbee. She was born on November 14, 1919, in San Augustine, to Alma Hall and Random R. Hardy.

Survivors include her children; Nancy Thornton Gatewood of Texas City and Alan Thornton and his wife, Pam, of Lumberton; grandchildren, John David Gatewood and his wife, Candis, of Pearland; Robert Dempsey Gatewood and his wife, Donna, of Tomball; Christyn Thornton of Fort Worth; and Ashley Thornton of Lumberton; and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elbert Dempsey Thornton; and brothers, James R. Hardy and Willie E. “Buck” Hardy.

A gathering of Mrs. Thornton’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2016, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
