Jerry L. Haynes, Sr.

Jerry
L. Haynes, Sr., 70, of Hamshire, died Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Riceland
Medical Center, Winnie. He was born on January 19, 1946, in Carthage, to Minnie
Lee Sturrock Haynes and Joseph Cullen Haynes, and had been a resident of
Hamshire since 1996. Jerry was a United
States Air Force veteran.
Jerry
was one of the ten children coming from humble beginnings. He met his best
friend and wife while in the Air Force, stationed in Dover, Delaware, in 1968.
Jerry was a tremendous entrepreneur in the car business, real estate, restaurants,
and heavy equipment/construction areas. The job he was most proud of was being
the Godly head of our family. He taught his children God’s precious Word. Jerry
stated “I am humbled that God would even
take the time to talk to me”. When he opened God’s Word, God Spoke to him,
in circumstance and though people. God spoke to him. His only desire was that
his family and people he met would know Jesus as their Savior like he did. “Don’t cry for me. Celebrate. God blessed me
with a great life and I couldn’t ask for more. Whether I stay or whether I go,
it’s good either way.”
He
is survived by his wife of fifty years, Liz Haynes; son, Jerry Haynes, Jr. and his
wife, Melody, of Warren; daughters, Ronda Burdick and her husband, Jeff, of Hamshire and Bobbie
Moses and her husband, James, of Port Neches; grandchildren, Colton, Tyler, and
Garrett Haynes, Mason and Travis Burdick, and David, Jerry, and Steven
Thompson; great-grandchildren, Liberty, Korinne, Tatum, and James Thompson, and
McKalib Bargainer; sisters, Ida Weigman and her husband, L.C., of Rusk; Mildred
Havard, of Lumberton; and Armentha Lewelling, of Houston; and brother, Jimmy
Haynes, of Lumberton.
Jerry
will be remembered as a man of God and a wonderful family man.
A
gathering of Mr. Haynes; family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00
p.m., Monday, October 10, 2016, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer, Winnie. His
funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at First Baptist
Church, 25304 Highway 124, Hamshire, with Pastor Blaine McFarlin, officiating.
His interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
