Dr.
Robert S. Edwards, 86, of Burkeville, died Saturday, August 13, 2016, at M.D.
Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. He was born on November 3, 1929, in
Oglethorpe, Georgia, to Willie Mae Bryan and Fred Edwards, Sr. Dr. Edwards was a United States Army veteran,
having served in the Korean War. He was a retired Research Chemist from Texaco,
and held eleven patents. Dr. Edwards was a loving husband and father; a devout
Christian, and also an avid fisherman.
Dr.
Edwards is survived by his wife, Joan Annand Edwards; sons, Robert Bryan
Edwards and Stephen Edwards and his wife, Angela, all of Beaumont; daughter,
Susan McCann and her husband, Peter, of Humble; sister, Bess Edwards, of
Oglethorpe, Georgia; and grandchildren, Drake Robert Edwards and Heather Hill
McCann.
He
is preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Cay Edwards; and brother, Fred
Edwards, Jr.
A
gathering of Dr. Edwards’ family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his memorial
service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 25, 2016, at First Christian Church,
5290 North Caldwood Drive, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605
North Major Drive, Beaumont. A private committal was held at Broussard’s
Crematorium, Beaumont.
