Clarice
Audrey Long Smith, 87, of Nederland, died Saturday, August 13, 2016. She was
born on March 8, 1929, in Smackover, Arkansas, to Allen McKinley Long and Mable
Alger Long.
First and
foremost, Clarice was a lady, and she never went anywhere without her lipstick. Her lipstick stories are endless! She always made sure that her hair, makeup,
and clothes were always perfect!
She enjoyed
sewing for the public for many years.
She also worked in the snack bar at Central Middle School in Nederland
for 23 years before retiring in 2000.
Clarice loved
to cook and bake for family and friends and was known to many as the
Snickerdoodle Lady. She baked thousands
of them throughout the years for countless occasions and events. No gathering at her house was complete
without a good meal and tasty dessert.
Clarice and Ralph welcomed everyone into their home, and they always
made sure there was more than enough for an extra friend or guest. She made sure birthdays and holidays were a
special time for everyone.
Clarice loved
to travel to Colorado and other beautiful places. Her experiences in the many places she lived
and her travels with family were the highlights of her life.
Clarice was
never happier than when family was gathered and enjoying each other at her home. The family looks forward to carrying on her
legacy.
Survivors
include her son, Danny Smith and his wife, Cindy, of Larkspur, Colorado;
daughters, Nancy Cain of Nederland and Sally Culver and her husband, Larry, of
Port Neches; grandchildren, Lori Cain, Jay Cain, Keelie Smith and her fiancé,
Jason Miller, Bryan Smith, Sarah Culver, Michael Culver, and Kristen Culver;
brothers, Paul Long and Huey P. Long, and twin brother Clarence Long; sister,
Marie Rogers and husband Pat; and special friends, Alan and Wendy Roberts and
family; Mark and Peggy Griffin and family; Vincent and Alise Basset and family;
and Ole and Carolyn Sunde and family.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph B. Smith; sisters, Ouida Hogg,
Leona Lotz, Vera Fraser, and Peggy Sullivan; brothers, J.W. Oliver and John L.
Long.
A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s family and friends will be
from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Broussard’s, 505
North 12th Street, Nederland, Texas. Her funeral service will be at 10:00
a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Broussard’s, with her entombment to follow
at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves, Texas.
