James A. Morgan, 99 years, 11 months, 11 days, of Nederland, died
Thursday, August 4, 2016. A life-long resident of Nederland, he was born August
24, 1916, in the 700 block of 13th Street, the youngest son of Alvin
M. Morgan and wife Kate McCulloh Morgan.
He resided for about seventy years at the family residence on 14th
Street. He was preceded in death by his wife of over sixty-four years, Winifred
Hawkins Morgan.
James is survived by his two sons Mike Morgan
and his wife Joanna of Smithville, and Patrick Morgan and his wife Judy of
Nacogdoches; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Morgan and his wife Sanieh of Austin,
Jonathan Morgan and his wife Chako of Arlington,VA, Michal Rottman and her
husband Rob of Dallas, Sarah King and husband Charles of Houston, and Bethany
Orheim and husband Kris of Dallas; and eleven great-grandchildren.
James
was a pipefitter by profession and spent the last 20 years of his working life
at Crown Pipe Shop. He was an active
member of the Unitarian Fellowship and Unitarian Church in Beaumont until
circumstances precluded his ability to attend.
We are
thankful for Vera LeBlanc, his loving partner, caretaker, and fellow traveler
for the last several years of his life.
Vera and her family made his life far richer and more rewarding. Even when his health began to fail, Vera was
there to ensure that his life was as full as possible. Their relationship was one of love, devotion,
and mutual respect.
A
gathering of Mr. Morgan’s family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until
8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Broussard’s Mortuary, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Oak Bluff Memorial
Park, 101 Block Street, Port Neches, with Reverend Mark Fleming presiding.
In lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Morgan’s memory to
Southern Poverty Law Center, 400 Washington Avenue, Montgomery, Alabama 36104,
or to the charity of one’s choice.
