George Henry Norman, Jr.
December 6, 1943 - June 21, 2016
George Henry Norman,
Jr., 72, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016. He was born on December 6,
1943, in Beaumont, to Winnie Mae “June” Lynch Norman and George Henry Norman,
Sr. George received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Masters Degree in
Chemical Engineering at Lamar University. He retired as a Senior Chemical
Engineer with Fluor-Daniel Engineers of Greenville, South Carolina. He once
remarked how much he loved Greenville, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge
Mountains, where he had many wonderful friends.
When he retired, he
returned to Beaumont where he could enjoy the Norman family country place near
Woodville. He loved the serenity and tranquility of the woods and the lakes,
with the opportunity to fish, shoot his guns, watch fireworks over the lake,
and enjoy really great food! He loved his family and the country place, where
the family frequently gathered in large numbers. He always enjoyed seeing
everyone…briefly.
Old friends from
Beaumont High school remember him as a “handsome boy who drove a fast black ’57
Chevy”. He was known to be smart and quiet, but so nice and kind.
As an engineer, he
enjoyed traveling and living in different parts of the world, especially
Germany and Holland, designing pharmaceutical processing plants. When overseas,
he enjoyed the camaraderie and traveling with friends and other engineers.
George is survived by his
sisters, Elizabeth Hebert, of Georgetown; June White, of Beaumont; and Sally
Nichols and her husband, Howard, of Beaumont; nieces, Candace LeMasters and her
husband, Dick; and Sarah Nichols-Berthold and her husband, Ian; nephews, Ray Hebert;
Jim Hebert; Beau Cribbs and his wife, Shari; and Grant Nichols III and his
wife, Julie; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death
by his parents; and niece, Katharine (Kay) Hebert Skutnik.
Through his illness and
the resulting surgeries, George fought a brave battle and a good fight. He was
loved by his family and he knew it. We will always have precious memories of
him, and we will miss him forever.
A gathering of Mr.
Norman’s family and friends will be 12:00 p.m., with his funeral service at
1:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2016, at Broussard’s Chapel, 2000 McFaddin Avenue,
Beaumont. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m., Woodville Magnolia
Cemetery, North Nellius Street, Woodville 75979.
