Velma Harrell-Fling, 97, of Lumberton, died Thursday,
June 9, 2016. She was born on May 2,
1919, in Goodrich, to Onie Walters Young and Euen Hill Young. Velma worked in the cafeteria for Silsbee Independent
School District and as a bus driver
for Lumberton Independent School District. She was also a member of Hemphill Order of
the Eastern Star, #375, in Hemphill.
Survivors include her children,
John H. Harrell and his wife, Donna, of Hemphill; and Jerry A. Harrell, and
David “Jug” Harrell and his wife, Marilyn, all of Lumberton; grandchildren,
John Harrell, Jr. and his wife, Karen; Michael Harrell and his wife, Missy;
Casey Skiles; Deena Wahl and her husband, Kenneth; Alysia Harrell; Kara Jones
and her husband, Mike Lewerenz; Clay Harrell; Trey Koch and his wife, LaChelle; and Jayson Merren; and nineteen
great-grandchildren. She is preceded in
death by her parents; husbands, Harvey Harrell and Sam Fling; two sisters; and
four brothers.
A gathering of Mrs.
Harrell-Fling’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday,
June 10, 2016, at Broussard’s, 490
Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m.,
Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at Peebles Cemetery,
Polk County.
