Helen Maxine Ames Higbie

Helen Maxine Ames Higbie, 92, of Bee Cave, formerly of Sour Lake, died Monday, May 30, 2016, at Park Manor, Bee Cave. She was born on February 9, 1924, to Ethel Artie Gunter and Kirk McShan, in Batson.

Survivors include her three daughters, Pat Wedge and her husband, Roy, of Tyler; Jan Meadows and her husband, Ron, of Carmel, Indiana; and Mary Kemp and her husband, Robert, of Lumberton; stepdaughter, Mary Carolyn Adams and her husband, Art, of Spicewood. Maxine had one son, Donald Ames and his wife, Margaret, of Austin; stepson, David Higbie and his wife, Mary, of Katy; and grandchildren, Brent Burch of White Oak, Kent Burch of Bevil Oaks, Greg Burch of Whitehouse, Randy Barnes of Newbury Park, California, Lisa Call of Canyon Lake, Darren Barnes of Canyon Lake, Laurie Rabalais of Crystal Beach, Kelley Montgomery of Round Rock, Wesley Kemp of Hutto, Andrea Ames of Austin, Todd Higbie of Austin, Blake Higbie of Katy, and Kim Higbie of Austin; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Wesley Ames; second husband, Chester “Chet” Higbie; and one son, Allen Ames.

A funeral service for Mrs. Higbie will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Sour Lake.
