Irwin K. Moorhouse, 91,
of Beaumont, died Friday, April 8, 2016, at The Oaks of Beaumont. He was born on October 13, 1924, to Ruth
Cruse Moorhouse and Irwin K. Moorhouse, Sr.
Irwin grew up in
Beaumont attending local schools. He was
a member of the 1942 graduating class of Beaumont High. Upon graduation, Irwin joined the Army with
his life-long friends. He became a
member of the 13th Armored Group, which landed in Lingayens
Gulf. He participated in the Battle of
Luzon, which resulted in the Allied Forces victory over Japan.
After returning home
from the war, Irwin married Margery Adams in 1947. He spent the next sixty-eight years with the
biggest catch of his life. Irwin
graduated from The University of Texas in 1950 with a degree in Geology. He was employed by American Real Estate and
eventually retired from Jefferson County Appraisal District.
Irwin was an active
member of the church where he and Margie married. At St. Anne’s, he served on
many committees through the years.
Our “Moose” will be
remembered for his generosity, BBQ, and love of hunting and fishing. He loved Longhorn football, but most of all,
he loved the devotion to his family and church.
Survivors include his
wife, Margery; children, Mike Moorhouse and his wife, Katherine; Pat Moorhouse;
Ann McDonald and her husband, Mike; David Moorhouse; Mary Smith and her
husband, Bobby; John Moorhouse and his wife, Dena; grandchildren, Ginny
McClanahan, Ellen Briscoe and her husband, Jeff; Jake White; Ben White; and
Katy Moorhouse; and great-grandchild, Leah McClanahan.
He is preceded in death
by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Ed Goolsbee; and niece, Elizabeth
Goolsbee.
A Rosary for Mr.
Moorhouse will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with a gathering of his family and
friends to follow until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Broussard’s, 2000
McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, 2016, at
St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with his interment to
follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Woodville.
