Weldon
T. Gibson, 85, of Beaumont, died Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Baptist
Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on June 5, 1930, to DeLene
Wright Gibson and Leighton Gibson, in Birmingham, Alabama. After returning from
his Army service during the Korean War, Weldon completed his degree from Baylor
University.
Weldon
recently retired as an Advisor with the Small Business Development Corporation
at Lamar University where he had served for over 25 years. Prior to this position, Weldon’s career
included serving as Executive Director for Sherman, Irving, North Little Rock
and Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he served 14 years with
the United States Chamber of Commerce and was an accredited member of the American
Chamber of Commerce Executives. Weldon
loved spending time on the family tree farm in Arkansas. He also enjoyed serving as a deacon in his
local church.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Romine and Charlotte
Evans. Survivors include his wife of over
sixty-one years, Glenna Gibson; son, Don Gibson and his wife, Jo Lou, of
Houston and Stan Gibson and his wife, Cindy, of Beaumont; and grandchildren,
Megan Gibson of Beaumont and Greg Gibson and his wife, Kristy, of Fulshear.
A
visitation with Mr. Gibson’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until
7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive,
Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24,
2016, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Haven of Rest Cemetery,
Beaumont.
In
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Julie Rogers Gift of
