Scott Ryan Schauerman
May 8, 1981 - February 4, 2016
Scott
Ryan Schauerman, 34, of Beaumont, died Thursday, February 4, 2016. A native and
lifelong resident of Beaumont, he was born on May 8, 1981, to Faye Langley
Schauerman and Gary Schauerman.
Scott’s
Uncle James wrote this on his Facebook page, “Two days ago, I lost a special
nephew, Scott Schauerman. His heart was
as big as a house. His laugh was infectious, his smile beautiful. I will miss
my Scott.”
This
describes why it was so easy to love Scott and why it is so hard for those who
knew him to let him go. We miss our Scott!
Before
his accident in 1997, Scott loved to play the guitar and sports of any kind. He
loved to fish at the beach after dark, and he could do complicated math
problems in his head.
After
his accident, Scott was no longer able to do physical things but he could still
do amazing things in his mind. He could pronounce names backwards. Burton became notrub, Gary became
yrag. He spoke Spanish, and he
could say Grandma - Oma - in German. Although Scott’s Grandpa Jake was German,
he never spoke it so Gary and Faye were never quite sure how Scott knew
this. Scott also loved to go to church
and he would sing the hymns that he had known as a child. He communicated through music.
Scott’s
sister, Ashley, didn’t have children until many years after his accident, but
he knew they were his nephews and nieces, and he always enjoyed their visits.
Brayden and Aubrey just accepted their uncle as he was. He was just getting to
know Owen, and he even got to meet the newest little Hawn named Molly when she
was born this past December. And, of course, he loved his brother-in-law. Adam
was his fishing buddy at the beach when he was young. If things would have been
different, Adam and Scott would have spent a lot of time on the water!
When
Scott had his accident, he was not expected to live but God had other plans.
Scott did live and, although his life was completely different than before, he
was always happy. He loved cartoons and funny movies and he loved his Mom and
Dad. Gary and Faye took such good care of Scott that he never had another major
health problem after the accident.
As
we remember Scott, we think about how free he must have felt when he left his
body behind. It is comforting to know that when God called Scott to Heaven,
Grandma Schauerman was there to make sure he was warm, and Grandpa Schauerman
was there to sing “Old Susannah” with him.
He
is survived by his parents, Faye and Gary Schauerman of Beaumont; sister,
Ashley Hawn and her husband, Adam, of Tampa, Florida; nieces and nephews,
Brayden Hawn, Aubrey Hawn, Owen Hawn, and Molly Hawn; aunts, Wanda Harrison and
her husband, Sherman, of Laurel, Mississippi and Peggy Hubert and her husband,
James, of Greenback, Tennessee. Scott is
also survived by numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
A
gathering of Scott’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.,
Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His
memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 8, 2016, at Redeemer
Lutheran Church, 4330 Crow Road, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements are
handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.
