Barry
D. Kunz, 83, of Beaumont, died Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Baptist Hospitals
of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on January 12, 1933, to Janet McKay
and Erwin O. Kunz in Ferndale, Michigan. Barry had a twin, Gerry; brothers,
Yank, Bob, Les; and sisters, Loraine and Virginia. They later moved to Long
Beach, Mississippi, where they grew up.
He
achieved Certification of Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America. Barry joined
the Mississippi National Guard before going into the United States Army at the
age of 17. He fought in the Korean War at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon
returning home he attended and graduated from Perkinston Junior College and
then enrolled and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College, where he
played on a football scholarship.
He
then worked for the Home Insurance and then The Fireman’s Fund Insurance
Company for ten years. Barry was invited by T.E. Moor, Jr. and became Senior
Vice President for T.E. Moor and Company Insurance. He achieved the designation
of Certified Property Commercial Underwriter “C.P.C.U.” Barry was awarded: 1991
Texas Professional Insurance Agent of the year for the entire state of Texas.
He
was a long time member of the Lion’s Club, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles,
and the YMBL. Barry played a little golf and some fishing events. He enjoyed the
Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M and has attended several games at their
stadiums. Barry was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where
he was an advisor and usher for years.
He
has two sons, Kevin D. Kunz has been with Kinsel Toyota for over ten years and
Gregory T. Kunz is a Doctor of Dental Surgery and practices in Port
Arthur.
A
gathering of Mr. Kunz’s family and friends be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.,
Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A private
family graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
