Joyce Greenwood Stahl

Joyce Greenwood Stahl, of
Port Arthur, died Monday, December 28, 2015. She was born on the 7th
of January, in Morgan City, Louisiana, to Zoe Forgey and Claude C. Greenwood.
Joyce was raised in
Morgan City, Louisiana. She was educated at L.S.U. before graduating from
Spencer’s Business College in New Orleans, Louisiana. Joyce married Selby W.
Stahl in Houston in 1957 and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she
graduated from the Technical Vocational Institute as a nursing assistant and
licensed nurse. She worked the majority of her career as an executive secretary
and nurse. Joyce lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for forty-three years and
joined various community programs. She was a charter member of the New Mexico
Animal Humane Society, volunteer of the year for Placitas Animal Rescue, spent
eighteen years volunteering for animal control for the Police Department in
Bernalillo, New Mexico, and served on their chambers of commerce. Joyce
volunteered at the local hospital, Sandoval County Tourist Center, and was an
avid member of American Legion #69.
Joyce moved to Port
Arthur in 2000 to care for her mother, who lived to be 101 years old. She
joined St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in 2001 and was active in
Ministries For Seniors, The Homebound, and Altar Society. She served on the
board for Catholic Charites and was an active volunteer at Altus Hospice. Joyce
also volunteered at the Hospitality Center, Christus Southeast Texas St. Mary
Hospital, and Groves Senior Center, and she was an Ombudsman for the state of
Texas in the area on aging. She was active in Hospice of Texas and Retired
& Senior Volunteer Program. Joyce was an avid member of the Red Hat Society
and American Legion #7.
Survivors include her niece,
Iris L. Caine of Port Neches; nephew, Dale Clotiaux and his wife, Eileen, of
Florida; best friend, David Gardner of Bernalillo, New Mexico; and loving pets,
numerous cousins, friends, and other relatives.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; husband, Selby Stahl; son; and two sisters.
A Memorial Mass for
Mrs. Stahl will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2016, at St. Charles
Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, under the direction of
Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Cremation arrangements
were handled under the direction of Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
