Dewey Gene Foote
February 6, 1930 - December 11, 2015
Dewey
Gene Foote, 85, of Lake Sam Rayburn, went to be with the Lord Friday, December
11, 2015, in his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 6, 1930 in LeCompte,
Louisiana, to Dewey and Ruby Mae Foote, of Cheneyville, Louisiana.
Growing
up in Cheneyville, Dewey was introduced to the outdoors by his father and that’s
where his love for hunting and fishing began. His love for the outdoors was a
passion of his and he spent as much time as possible living his dream: "
Hunting Mule Deer in Colorado or
Catching Largemouth Bass in Mexico with his close friends." Dewey's first love was his family and close friends. He loved his mother, daughter, and
grandchildren more than anything in this world.
He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone, especially his
family and friends. He always had that
loving smile on his face which expressed his love for everyone he knew. Dewey
attended Cheneyville High School. He
played baseball and excelled as a centerfielder. He was small but very very fast. He also enjoyed boxing, and there were several
times he would listen to fights on the radio as a child. He graduated from Cheneyville High School in
1947 and went on to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. After an
honorable discharge from the Navy he was employed by Gulf Refinery in Port
Arthur as a bricklayer, and retired after a long and successful career. After retirement he had a lot more time to do
things he loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Dewey bought a very nice lot on Lake Sam
Rayburn and built a lovely house with his own hands, which he also loved to
do. Now he had the opportunity to spend
time fishing, hunting ducks and deer, and visiting his daughter and
grandchildren who lived fairly close.
Dewey
is survived by his daughter, Patty Wilkerson and her husband, Cody; sister,
Betty McNutt; stepsons, Kim, Kurt, and Keith Northern; grandchildren, Josh
O'Rourke, Katie O'Rourke, and Cameron Wilkerson; nieces and nephews, Carol
Desonier, Miriam Tate, Jimmy Thibodaux, Jr. Nancy Welch, Janice Curtis, and
William Tate.
He
is proceeded in death by his parents, Dewey and Ruby Mae Foote; sister, Dorothy
Tate; bother-in-laws, Jimmy Thibodaux, Sr. and Walter McNutt.
A gathering of Mr.
Foote’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a
remembrance at 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2015, at Broussard’s, 2000
McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His committal will be held at Broussard’s
Crematorium, Beaumont.
