June Mary Bordelon
October 29, 1937 - December 1, 2015
June Mary Bordelon, 78,
of Beaumont, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Beaumont Health Care
Center. She was born on October 29,
1937, to Gertrude C. Allaire Hoover and Caleb M. Hoover, Jr., in Paris, Texas.
June graduated New
Iberia High School in Louisiana in 1955. She was a drum major and editor of the
school paper. She was quick witted and loved by her classmates. June later
attended USL in Lafayette where she met her great love, Charles Bordelon. After
a date or two, her date card from her dorm showed that only C. Bordelon would
be her date and dance partner from there on out. The two were married on June
7, 1958 in New Iberia, Louisiana.
After having four
children, she decided to learn to drive when in Longview. It was a harrowing
time for all, but she proved to be an okay driver. Her true driving skills were
proved when after looking for a new home in Beaumont; the trip back with the
children took on a “Hallelujah moment” when it started snowing as they reached Nacogdoches.
It snowed all the way to Longview. June stayed calm even though her children
were not.
After
moving to Beaumont, she went to work for the Texas Workforce Commission where
again, her charm and humor made her many more friends. June later went to head
the Beaumont office of Programs for Human Services and worked closely with
Child Protective Services. The challenge of working with families involved with
CPS grew her heart larger than ever because she was able to give back to her
fellow human beings and see their lives change for the better. June retired in
2002 after being diagnosed with brain cancer, and her husband's diagnosis of
cancer. She stayed near her husband's side until his death in January 2003.
She
then began her fight with cancer and out lived everyone's expectancy, to their
amazement. After breaking both hips on different occasions, June suffered a
devastating stroke Christmas 2009. She still defied all expectations and
continued to delight and make even more friends at Collier Park, Hotel
Beaumont, and Beaumont Home Care Center.
June
loved her grandchildren immensely and was delighted when she became a
great-grandmother to two beautiful girls. She and Charles loved antiques as this
was evident in the beautiful home they shared. It was difficult to say which she
loved the more... estate sales or clothing sales. She was a very loving wife,
sister, mother and friend who will be greatly missed.
June is survived by her
children, Charles Bordelon, Jr. (Susan Lee);
Patrick Bordelon (Teri Wentz);
Jayne Bordelon, all of Beaumont; and Patrice Snell (Denby) of Valparaiso,
Indiana; sisters, Nancy Gates, Janice Graziano, Margaret Little, and Martha
Crombie; grandchildren, Erin Snell and Patrick Snell (Kristina Wiggins); great-grandchildren,
Madeline Rose Snell and Harper Snell; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in
death by her parents; and husband, Charles W. Bordelon, Sr.
A memorial service for
Mrs. Bordelon will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2015, at Broussard’s,
2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont, with the interment of her cremated body, along
with her late husband’s cremated body, to follow at Magnolia Cemetery,
Beaumont.
