Buford "B.C." Calvin Hall
August 1, 1916 - November 9, 2015
Buford Calvin "B.C." Hall, 99,
of Beaumont, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2015, surrounded by
family and care givers at home. He was born on August 1, 1916, in Mansfield, Louisiana,
to the late Sarah Pearle Kornegay Hall and Eric Hall.
Buford graduated from South Park High
School, Beaumont, in 1933, and attended Texas A&M, College Station, before
joining the United States Army Air Corps, prior to the Pearl Harbor attack. During
World War II, he was stationed at Florence Army Air Field, South Carolina, where
he met and later married Llewellyn Campbell, on December 30, 1944.
After World War II, he became a
draftsman for Vulcraft in Florence, then was recalled to the United States Air Force
during the Korean Conflict, stationed at Walker Air Force Base, Roswell, New Mexico,
and McAndrew Air Force Base, Argentia, Newfoundland. The Halls returned to
Beaumont in 1953, where B.C. was employed as a chemist for Sun Oil Company, and
finished his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Lamar State College of Technology
(now Lamar University). He was eventually promoted to Chief Chemist at Sun Oil
Company, Nederland, and retired on May 1, 1985.
B.C. liked to play tennis, golf, and was
on a bowling league. Prior to retirement, he made a decision to join a gym,
deciding it was a better choice than ending up in a wheelchair. He was given a
"Live Long, Live Strong" Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 and
continued going to the gym up until this past September. B.C. was an avid
reader and learner, always improving his knowledge. He especially loved
mathematics and tutored many students primarily in math and chemistry. B.C. was
a Deacon of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Beaumont. He believed in donating
to charities and in helping others that were less fortunate than himself.
Buford was preceded in death by his wife
of sixty-five years; parents, sisters, Evelyn "Susie" Hall Pickrell
and Jane Hall Akin; and brother, Rex Wayne Hall.
He is survived by his son, Ronald Eric
Hall, of Beaumont; daughter, Albre Patricia Hall Cheshire and her husband,
Wayne, of Kountze; four grandchildren, Jennifer Cheshire Shepherd and her
husband, Greg, of Diboll; Jason Wayne Cheshire and his wife, Cara, of
Lumberton; Sean Cheshire, of League City; and Amber Cheshire Dupree and her husband,
Shane, of Moss Bluff, Louisiana; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his care givers and
River City Hospice.
A funeral service for Mr. Hall will
be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major
Drive, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Broussard’s.
