Leslie McCown
July 21, 1939 - November 3, 2015
Leslie McCown, 76, of
China, died Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas,
Beaumont. He was born on July 21, 1939, in Beaumont, to Celia Mae Clubb McCown
and Leslie Alvin McCown, and had been a lifelong resident of China.
Leslie (Cheedo) was
sweet, polite, gentle, and kind. He loved people and always had a ready
handshake and a silly laugh.
Leslie did have one
quirk that would drive his dad up the wall. His dad would be working on some
equipment and would walk away for a few minutes and when he came back, Leslie
would have all his tools picked up and put away.
Even though Perry “took
care of Leslie”, Leslie always thought of and worried about Perry.
Throughout all of his
hospital visits and treatments he was always patient, cooperative, and very
accepting of whatever was happening to him. When he was ready to go home he
would shake the doctors and nurses hand and tell them “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
That was his signal it was time to leave.
Leslie always walked
slow and had to “make his steps.” With this last hospital visit, the doctors
couldn’t believe he made it as long as he did these last few days. As Michelle
said “You know he had to take all those extra steps to heaven. He never got in
a hurry about anything.”
We will miss Leslie so
very much and always love him.
Leslie is survived by
his brothers, Melvin McCown and his wife, Mary and Perry McCown, all of China;
nephew, Todd McCown and his wife, Martie, of China and Michael McCown and his
wife, Catina, of Beaumont; and nieces, Melissa Reese and her husband, Duke and
Michelle Blaisdell and her husband, Barry, all of China.
A gathering of Mr.
McCown’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday,
November 5, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral
service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2015, at Broussard’s, with his
interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
