August 16, 1963 - October 25, 2015
Sara Colleen Robertson
Scofield, 52, of Beaumont, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015. She is with
the Lord! Colleen was born on August 16, 1963, in Beaumont, to June Peckham
Robertson and Robert J. Robertson.
Along with her older
sister, Anna Christine Robertson Brown, she attended Regina Howell Elementary
School, George Marshall Junior High School, and Forest Park High School.
Colleen graduated from Forest Park in 1981, where she participated in swimming
and tennis programs. An avid and talented tennis player, she took lessons from
Sue Simcox and Jeffrey Herr, and played in local tournaments. During the
summers of 1980-1984, she attended Camp Waldemar in Hunt, Texas, where she won
a gold medal in badminton and later served as a counselor and tennis instructor.
In the summer of 1981,
Colleen lived in Toulouse, France, where she served as a cultural exchange
student with the American Field Service program. She attended Lamar University
where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Betta sorority and in 1985 earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. At Lamar, Colleen shared close
friendships with many students, including “the Edwards twins”, Allison and
Catherine Edwards.
After graduating from
college, using her collegiate communications degree, she worked in advertising
and publication relations, serving with Michael Lee Advertising & Design,
Inc., Ann Lee & Associates, KKMY Radio, and Becker Printing / Kay’s Compositions.
In later years, Colleen worked in veterinary services with Dowlen Road Veterinary
Clinic, where she reinforced a life-long love of animals, a love that was
demonstrated by her support for the Humane Society of Southeast Texas. She also
worked in automobile services with Classic Acura, Inc.
On March 7, 1998, at
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Beaumont, Colleen married Louis M. Scofield, a
Beaumont attorney. Together they had one daughter, Emma Colleen Scofield, who
is an honor student and highly ranked vocalist at Westbrook High School. Like
her mother, Emma was an avid camper at Camp Waldemar. Colleen vacationed in
Santa Fe, New Mexico and La Jolla, California alongside her parents, June and
Robert; her husband, Lou; her daughter, Emma; and other members of the Brown
family.
Colleen was much
concerned about national problems arising from the abuse of narcotic
medications. In response to these problems, she often consulted with Dr.
James Boone and Dr. Dan Boone, La Hacienda Treatment Center, Hunt, Texas, and
with Ms. Kathy Tunney, Executive Director, Ocean Recovery, Newport Beach,
California.
She will be remembered
for her loyalty to family and friends, her fierce love for Emma, her courage,
her sense of humor, her love for animals, and her mean throwing arm.
Colleen is survived by
her former husband, Lou Scofield; daughter, Emma Colleen Scofield; parents,
Robert and June Robertson; sister, Christine Brown and her husband, Adin A.
Brown; nieces and nephews, Alyssa Brown, Colin Brown and Sarah Brown, Christian
Brown, and Charlotte Brown; uncles, Jerry B. Peckham and Denzil Robertson;
