Denton "Weymouth" Smith, Jr.
March 21, 1946 - October 15, 2015
Denton “Weymouth” Smith,
Jr., 69, of Houston, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015, in his Houston home.
He was born on March 21, 1946, to Rosalie Armantine Snead Smith and Denton
Weymouth Smith, Sr., in Houston.
Weymouth spent almost
all of his adult life in Houston. He lived in New Orleans briefly as a child,
and then moved to Beaumont and attended Beaumont area schools. It was in
Beaumont that Weymouth developed many lifelong friendships. He cherished these
friendships throughout his life. Weymouth completed his high school years at
Allen Military Academy and went on to attend Stephen F. Austin University. He
worked as a machinist in Houston for over forty years, starting at Hughes Tools,
and then retiring from Allegheny Metal. After his retirement, Weymouth invested
in and managed real estate.
He loved cars, boats,
and all things fast! Even keeping a running list of every car he owned. He was
always working on a “project” like restoring his wooden boat or 1960 era stereo
equipment. He was fascinated by all things mechanical. When it came to travel,
Weymouth was always ready, whether a trip to Merryville, Louisiana or somewhere
exotic like, Thailand. His surprise visits and phone calls will be missed by
his family and friends.
He is survived by his
brother, Bobby Smith and his wife, Mary; nieces, Virginia McClanahan and her
daughter, Leah, all of Beaumont; and Ellen Briscoe and her husband, Jeff, of
New Orleans.
A gathering of Mr.
Smith’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with his memorial service
to follow at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Broussard’s, 2000
McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His cremation was held at Broussard’s Crematorium,
Beaumont.
