Michael L. Woodard, 57, passed
away at his home on July 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Mike was born on February 11, 1958,
in Monahans to Harley and Shirley Woodard. At age four, the family moved
to Arlington, Ohio, where he grew up. After his junior year of high school, the
family relocated to Arizona, where he graduated from Coolidge High School in
Coolidge.
Mike returned to West Texas and
went to work for Rowan Drilling Company, now Rowan Companies, Inc. He began his
career with Rowan as a roustabout and worked his way through the ranks to
Offshore Installation Manager, which he attained in 2005. Under his
co-leadership, his offshore rig was named Rig of the Quarter for the Americas
for the fourth quarter of 2014 and Rig of the Year for the Americas for 2014.
During his career with Rowan, Mike worked in both the land and offshore
divisions of the company, working sites around Texas and Oklahoma, in the Andes
Mountains of Argentina, on an inland-barge in Gabon, Africa, the Persian Gulf
and Trinidad. On June 6, 2015, he celebrated his thirty-fifth service anniversary with the company.
When not working, Mike enjoyed
working on projects around the house, spending time with family and friends,
pool-time with his grandchildren, and traveling around the country with his wife.
Mike is his survived by his
wife, Georgia "Sue" Woodard; father, Harley Woodard and his wife, Mary, of Finley, Ohio; sons, Anthony Woodard and his wife,
Kimberly, of Winnie; and Jeffery Woodard and his wife, Annie, of Houston; daughter,
Tracey Gore and her husband, Jerry, of Silsbee; brothers, Dwayne Woodard and his wife, Gail, of Largo, Florida;
Dennis Woodard of Fort Worth; and Craig Woodard and his wife, Patty, of Arlington, Ohio;
sister, Andrea Arditi and her husband, Gilles, of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Ruby and Jimmy Gore of Spurger; brother-in-law, Brian Clark of
Kenosha, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Kelsy and Ian Woodard of Silsbee; Kaycee and Stephen
Woodard of Winnie; Cameron and Gavin Woodard of Houston; and Renee Williams and her husband, Dave,
of Lumberton; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Colt Williams of
Lumberton; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike is further survived by dear
friends, Jan and Danny Reneau, Cheryl and Phil Boggess, and Sarah and Donnie
Gordon, all of Silsbee, and Craig Hillman and his wife, Joy, of Neely, Missouri, whose love,
visits, and uplifting support meant so much to him during his illness, and the
many employees of Rowan Companies, Inc., who stayed in contact, made visits, and
never let him forget that he was part of the Rowan family.
Mike's committal was held at Broussard's Crematorium, Beaumont. A private service for his family and
friends will follow.
