Norma Jean Newsom, 77, of Port
Neches, died Saturday, May 23, 2015. She was born on January 9, 1938, in Ville
Platte, Louisiana, to Gracie Stewart and Ogden Johnson, and had been a longtime
resident of the area.
Norma enjoyed working in her
flower bed and fishing. She was an avid reader. Norma managed Royal Neches
Apartments, and several other properties, for many years.
She is survived by her son,
Mitchell Newsom and his wife, Lisa, of Port Neches; daughters, Michelle Smith
and her husband, Greg, and Marlinda Polanco, all of Port Neches; grandchildren,
Jackie Smith; Kirstie Gros and her husband, Dereck; Brittiany Terry; Kristina
Polanco; and Brandon Phelps, Jr.; step-grandchildren, Joseph and Nicole Spears;
great-grandchildren, Hayden and Tanner Melanson, Joslyn Jean Briscoe, and Gage
Gros; brother, Howard Johnson of West Monroe, Louisiana, and a host of nieces,
nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Norma is preceded in death by her
husband of fifty-four years, Robert Newsom; parents, and grandsons, Rustin and
Dustin Smith.
A gathering of Mrs. Newsom’s
family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27,
2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral
service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2015, at Broussard’s, with her
interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
