Doris
M. Callender, 95, of Beaumont, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Summer
Place Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beaumont.
She was born on August 5, 1919, in Opelousas, Louisiana, to Nancy Foret
Baker and Walter Baker, and had been a longtime resident of the area.
Doris
is survived by her son, Harland Callender, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Beaumont;
daughter, Sherry Simmons and her husband, Jim, of Richardson; daughter-in-law,
Vicki Callender, of Katy; grandchildren, Melissa Callender, of Galveston;
Harland R. Callender III and his wife, Carrie, of Buna; Jeff Simmons and his
wife, Aimee, of Salalah, Oman; Jeremy Simmons and his wife, Leigh Anne, of
Warrensburg, Missouri; Hannah Gillen and her husband, Jeremy and Abbey Blair
and her husband, Adam, all of Katy; twelve great-grandchildren; and a host of
nieces and nephews.
She
is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harland R. Callender, Sr.; son,
Michael Owen Callender; and sisters, Nola Locke, Olga (Issie) Griffith, Katherine (Kat) Herriot, and Marjorie (Billie) Voittle.
A
gathering of Mrs. Callender’s family and friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until
10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive,
Beaumont. Her graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m., at Forest Lawn
Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont.
