Betty Jean Ham, known by most as Maw Maw, passed away
peacefully in her home in Beaumont, on Thursday, April 23, 2015. She was born on December 15, 1928, in
Beaumont, to Ara and George Gresham. In her younger years, Betty worked as a
carhop at Shelton’s Drive-In on Rail Road in Beaumont, and loved to go out
dancing with friends in her free time. As the years went on she worked side by
side with her daughters renovating homes and properties in Southeast Texas.
Maw Maw lived her life for her children and grandchildren
and welcomed anyone into her home as family. She was an avid collector of just
about any knick knack she could get her hands on and could make the best
pancakes and pies you could ever dream of. If you called Maw Maw's house and
she didn’t answer, it was because she was either waiting on her chances to win
something on the radio, out fishing, or winning at the casino with her best
friend Arthur.
Maw Maw’s smile and laughter could light up any room and her
sense of humor brought joy to anyone she was around. Maw Maw will be truly
missed.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Sheron Spencer, Diane
Blackmon, and Shelia LaRousse; grandchildren, Melissa and Glenn Sellers, Melody
and Shannon Swain, Mark Miller, Melinda Hallmark, Jason and Liz Barbosa, Daniel
Cron, Karen Cron and Don Finley, Rachael Cron and Myron Potter, Ashley and Chad
Finch, and Codi Drewett and Jacolbie Wilson; great-grandchildren, Kourtni
Mason, Kalynn Hallmark, Stephynn Miller, Brock Barbosa, Kirsten King, Jonathan
Barbosa, Lani Kimbal, Caden Swain, Makennah Barbosa, Trissy Cron, Brayden
Miller, Caleb Swain, Megan Potter, Annslee Barbosa, Weiand Finley, Keelee
Potter, Alaina Potter, and Jaylon Wilson; great-great-grandchild, Savanna Maxwell;
best friend, Arthur Cadena; and many other friends and extended family members.
A gathering of Maw Maw’s family and friends will be from
6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Broussard’s, 1605 North
Major Drive, Beaumont. A celebration of her life will be 2:00 p.m., Monday,
April 27, 2015, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial
Park, Beaumont.
