Charlotte "Dee" Rainey

Charlotte
“Dee” Rainey, 81, a life-time resident of Fannett, died Tuesday, April 14,
2015, at The Arboretum of Winnie. Charlotte, known to her friends and family as
Dee, and NaNa to her beloved grandsons, was born on September 27, 1933, in
Beaumont, to Gladys Wingate and Charles Hargraves.
Charlotte
earned a Bachelor’s degree in education, from Lamar University, taught many
years in the East Chambers school district, retiring from the elementary
school. Many of her former students still live in the Winnie-Stowell community,
and refer to her as their favorite teacher.
Her
interests included family time at her beach cabin at Crystal Beach. Dee loved
flounder fishing in East Bay, with her husband, at their favorite spot, which
they named the “Honey Hole”. She also enjoyed the many times spent with her
card group of friends. Dee also could be spotted at her favorite slot machine.
Many remember her for her entertaining sense of humor and immaculate
housekeeping. Anyone who would visit her knew that you always took your shoes
off at the front door.
Mrs.
Rainey is survived by her daughters, Cindy Rainey Eskue and her husband,
George; Toby Rainey McKeever and her husband, Tommy; and LouAnn Rainey and her
beloved dog, Bella; grandsons, Kyle Eskue and his wife, Shannon and Ryan
McKeever and his fiancée, Michelle; great-grandchildren, Patrick, Benjamin, and
Ryleigh; sister-in-law, Jeanette Edwards; and many other family and friends.
She
was preceded in death by her beloved husband of fifty-two years, Louis Rainey;
and Mom, Gladys Ann Wingate Speyrer.
The
family wishes to thank the staff of The Arboretum of Winnie, Winnie Community
Hospital and Gentiva Hospice, for the care given to Dee.
A
gathering of Mrs. Rainey’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00
p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2015, at
Broussards. A private family committal will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial
Park, Beaumont.
