John Robert Brooks, 89, of
Winnie, died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at The Arboretum of Winnie. He was born on
January 6, 1926, in Desdemona, to Jeanie Mae Strange Brooks and John Clinton
Brooks. John was a longtime resident of the area and retired from Exxon, in
Monroe City, after thirty-eight years of service.
John graduated from Anahuac
High School and was a United States Army and Navy veteran, having served during
World War II. He was an avid deer hunter, who loved being outdoors.
Survivors include his sons,
Johnny R. Brooks, Sr. and his wife, Cindy, of Stowell and Ronny Neal Brooks of
Winnie; grandchildren, Johnny R. Brooks, Jr., Tanner Brooks, Ryan Neal Brooks,
Brandy Simon, and R.J. Brooks.
He is preceded in death by
his parents; wife, Betty Jo Brooks, whom he married on October 9, 1947;
brothers, Henry and Grennie; and sisters, Pearlie and Toottie.
A gathering of Mr. Brooks’
family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 25,
2015, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His funeral service
will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Broussard’s, with interment to
follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
