Glenn Ray Hays, 63, of Nederland, lost his battle with
cancer February 19, 2015. He died
peacefully in his home surrounded by family and loved ones. Glenn was born in Port Arthur, Texas on
September 4, 1951, to the late Dale Hays and Sally Thibault. He graduated from Bishop Burns Catholic High
School in 1969. He earned a BS in math
and a Master’s degree in school administration from Lamar University in
Beaumont. He married the love of his
life Debra in 1977. Debra and Glenn were co-founders and members of Triangle
Baptist Church, where Glenn served as a deacon of the church for 28 years.
Glenn was a lifelong educator and student. After being laid
off from Texaco in 1984, he began his teaching career. He was a math teacher at
Lincoln High School in Port Arthur and later went on to become an assistant
principal there. When the high schools
consolidated, Glenn was assistant principal of the 9th grade campus until he
retired in 2005 from Port Arthur I.S.D.
In 2009, he went back into the classroom as a math teacher, at Johnson’s
Bayou in Louisiana. He remained teaching up until this past December. He had
recently enrolled in Lamar University to continue his education by pursuing a
doctorate.
Glenn is survived by his wife Debra Hays; two children: Kris
Hays and wife Kerri, and daughter Kammie Hays of Nederland; and grandchildren:
Shelby, Taylor, and Caleb Hays and Abriella Johnson; brother and sister-in-law
Lynn and Kathy Miller; niece Ashleigh Miller DuChamp and husband Mitch;
siblings: Larry Hays and wife Evelyn of Baton Rouge, La, William “Punkin” Hays
of Savannah, GA, Jan Hazelton of Austin, TX, Johnny Whelply of Greenville, TX,
and Sara Blanco and husband Randy of Nederland, TX.
Please join us as we celebrate the life of Glenn Hays.
Visitation will be held at Broussard’s Mortuary, 505 North 12th
Street, Nederland, on Saturday, February 21, beginning at 5:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at
7:00 p.m.
