Betty Jean DeLord
January 2, 1928 - February 7, 2015
Betty Jean DeLord, 87, of Georgetown,
formerly of Groves, went to be with our Heavenly Father Saturday, February 7,
2015, after a brief illness. She was born on January 2, 1928, in Alexandria,
Louisiana, to Edna M. Cedars Martin and Charles Francis Martin.
Betty graduated in 1944 from
Simpson High School in Simpson, Louisiana at age Sixteen. Prior to her
marriage, she moved to Port Arthur and worked at Kress Department Store and
Gulf Refinery.
On May 17, 1947, Betty married
Paul Clyde DeLord in Kountze. They made their home in Port Arthur and later
moved to Groves. Clyde was a bricklayer and Betty became a stay at home mom
after having three children in four years.
Betty had a beautiful singing
voice and was a talented artist who taught herself to play the piano, paint,
crochet, macramé, and stain glass. She attended art classes at Lamar
University. She was a Voracious reader and oftentimes read several books a
week.
Survivors include her children, Ron DeLord and his wife,
Brenda, of Georgetown; Gary DeLord and his wife, Patti, of League City; and
Sharon DeLord Mann of Beaumont; grandchildren, Jimmy Perkins; Doug DeLord; Jon
DeLord; Cathy Coon; Chris Coon, and his wife, Amber; and Troy Coon, Sr.;
great-grandchildren, Josh Wells and his
wife, Myriah; Cheyenne Wells; Sarah Perkins; Jonathan Perkins; Kaitlyn Perkins;
Cole Coon; Logan Coon; Savanah Coon; Sierra Coon; Troy Coon, Jr.; and Shelby
Coon; and great-great grandson, Leo Ortego.
She is preceded in death by her
husband, Clyde DeLord; parents, Charley and Edna Martin; and her sister,
Francis Earlene Vance.
She was loved and will be missed
by her family and friends.
The Family wishes to thank the
staff at Park Place Care Center in Georgetown and Altus Hospice of the Hills in
Austin for their care of Betty during her illness.
A gathering of Mrs. DeLord’s
family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:00
p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th
Street, Nederland. Entombment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
