Ruby Ruth Smith, 84, of Winnie,
died Friday, December 5, 2014. She was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on March
12, 1930, to Edna Courville and Alexson Manuel.
Ruby worked for East Chambers Independent
School District for many years in the cafeteria. She will be remembered for her
excellent cooking. Ruby enjoyed Cajun music and dancing.
She is survived by her sons,
James “Butch” Smith; Larry Wayne Smith; and Mike Smith and his wife, Pam, all
of Winnie; and John “JuJu” Smith and his wife, Kathy, of Pineland; thirteen
grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.
Ruby is preceded in death by her
husband, John Lee Smith; son, Delbert Dean Smith; grandsons, James Edward Smith
and James Robert Smith; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Nelson, Clanny,
Melvin, Jerry “Joe”, Olin, Earl, Bon, Persian, and Bruce; sisters, Carine,
Irene, Mildred, Emma, Dorothy, and Cindy.
A gathering of Mrs. Smith’s
family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary
recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, December
8, 2014, at Broussard’s, 134 W. Buccaneer, Winnie. Her funeral service will be 10:00
a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at
Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
