Roy Allen Blackburn, 73, of
Nederland, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014. A native and lifetime resident of
the area, he was born on January 11, 1941, in Cushing, to Mary Etta Brown and
Wylie Blackburn.
Roy was a United States Army veteran,
having served during Vietnam. He worked as an El Paso police officer. Roy
worked for Port Arthur Towing Company for over thirty years, before retiring
from Higman Towing as a Tankerman and Engineer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing,
working in his yard, and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of
fifty years, Mary Blackburn of Nederland; sons, Robert Blackburn and his wife
Christina, of Arlington and David Blackburn and his wife, Hilda, of Port
Arthur; grandchildren, Kinsey, Carlie, and Corey; great-granddaughter, Evelyn;
brother, George Blackburn and his wife, Shirley, of Lufkin; several nieces and
nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his
parents and sister, Mary Nell Oliver.
A memorial service for Mr. Blackburn
will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th
Street, Nederland. A family committal will be held at a later date at
Broussard’s Crematorium.
