Evelyn Irene Watz, 94, passed away on November
18, 2014. She was born to Johanna and Ed Kresta on September 23, 1920, in
Moravia, Texas, near Hallettsville. She grew up on the family farm outside of
El Campo, Texas.
Her life centered on faith, family, friends and good food. For twenty-four
years she worked at the family restaurant The Green Beanery in Beaumont, where
she was known for her gracious hospitality and delicious desserts. Her
heartfelt compliments and smile welcomed all who entered the business. Evelyn
loved to travel near and far with friends and family and never refused an
invitation for a vacation.
She was an active member of St. Jude parish and several Czech heritage
associations.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Roy Watz; her parents;
and two sisters, Sylvia Holub and Hattie Pavlu. She is survived by daughter,
Carolyn Wood; son, Glenn Watz of Beaumont; granddaughters, Shelly Wood Felton
of The Woodlands and Krin Wood Mock and her husband, Billy, of
Kingwood; great-grandchildren, Colby, Kyndall, Kinsey and Cameron Felton, and
Cory and Nicole Mock; sister, Addie Lee Knebel of El Campo; and eleven nieces and nephews. Memories of Mom, Eva,
Grammie, GG, Aunt Evelyn will be treasured forever.
A Rosary for Mrs. Watz will
be recited at 5:00 p.m., with her gathering to follow until 7:00 p.m., Friday,
November 21, 2014, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014,
at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont. Her
graveside service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon, at Holy Cross
Memorial Park in El Campo.
