Mary Jo Meadows Nix, 84, of Beaumont,
died Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Christus Hospital - St. Elizabeth in
Beaumont.
Mary Jo was born on August 29, 1930,
in Waco, Texas, to Emma Sawyer Meadows and George Meadows. It was in Waco that she met her husband of
sixty-seven years. Mary Jo met Henry
while working in the Registrar's Office at Baylor University. It was love at first sight. After their marriage they relocated to
Beaumont where Mary Jo worked as a secretary at the Beaumont Independent School
District. She had many hobbies
including doing the Beaumont Enterprise's crossword puzzle every day.
Mary Jo loved playing Bridge with
her friends at the Beaumont Bridge Studio.
She was quite an accomplished player achieving the rank of Silver Life
Master.
Mary Jo was loved by many. She will be deeply missed by her family
including her husband, Henry; daughter, Cheryl Rumery and her husband, Kyle, of
Lumberton; grandsons, Kyle Morgan Rumery and his wife, Cresta, of Lumberton and
Jason Mark Rumery, of Beaumont; great-granddaughters, Presley Rumery and
Berkley Rumery, of Beaumont; and sister, Margie Dickinson, of Waco.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her
parents, Emma Sawyer Meadows and George Meadows; brothers, Bill Meadows and
Jack Meadows; and nephew, Bill Oliver.
A
gathering of Mrs. Nix’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her
funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Calder
Baptist Church, 1005 North 11th Street, Beaumont. Her interment will
follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s,
2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.
