Palmer Jane Harvey Hanks
December 27, 1925 - September 13, 2014
Palmer
Jane Harvey Hanks, 88, of Beaumont, died Saturday, September, 13, 2014, at
Harbor Hospice House, Beaumont. She was born to Amanda Brown Harvey and Edgar
Harvey, on December, 27, 1925, in San Augustine, Texas. Palmer graduated from
San Augustine High School in 1943, moved to Beaumont that same year where she
lived until the time of her death. She married Roger Q. Hanks, on November 24,
1945, and together they had three children.
Everyone
was always invited to her house for a good meal that always included homemade
hot biscuits, yeast rolls, or corn bread and dessert. She baked cakes, cookies,
jail house rolls, and kolaches long before they were ever popular. Her
daughters always wore beautiful clothes made by their mother. Palmer helped
establish and run a family business with her husband that is still in business
today.
She
loved watching nature and the changing seasons, the smell of cut grass, fall
leaves as they fell from the trees, fire crackling in the fire place and the
burst of spring. As a devout Christian, her entire life was for God and his
teachings, as she began every day with a cup of coffee and her bible. Palmer
spent her entire life helping others so that they might know God.
Our love for our
mother is deep and ever-lasting, and our sorrow is healed by knowing she is in
heaven.
Survivors
include her husband, Roger Q. Hanks; and son, Roger Hanks, Jr. and his wife,
Diane, all of Beaumont; daughters, Kay LeBlanc and her husband, Jerry, of
Durango, Colorado and Starla Ware of Beaumont; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-six
great-grandchildren.
She
is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Johnny Harvey; sisters, Loraine
True and Billie Geraldine McAlpine; and son-in-law, Jerry Lee Ware.
A
gathering of Mrs. Hanks’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00
p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive,

2014, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
