Mary Jo Coody, 78, of Nederland, died Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. A lifelong resident of the area, she was born on March 1, 1936, in Silsbee, to Bessie Gore and Quinton Arthur Sheffield.

Mary retired from Lamar State Bank after over forty years of service as a teller supervisor and many other job capacities. She was a member of the First Church of God in Beaumont for over fifty years. Mary will be remembered for her love, patience, and her kindness to her family, friends, and everyone she encountered.

Survivors include her daughter, Ferrell Jo Baskins and her husband, Danny, of Ruston, Louisiana; sons, Homer Coody and his wife, Jobi and James Coody and his wife, Carrie, all of Nederland; grandchildren, Casey, Mitchell, Jennifer, and Rebekah; and great-grandchildren, Lilly, Donovan, Kyleigh, Wyatt, and Maddox.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Arthur Coody; and brother, Wesley Sheffield.

A gathering of Ms. Coody’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Broussard’s, with interment following at Franks Branch Cemetery, Fred.
