Bertie Mae Miller

Bertie Mae Miller, 81, of Hamshire, died Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Dubuis Hospital, Beaumont. She was born on September 3, 1932, in Oakdale, Louisiana to Loree Rollins and George Winn, Sr., and had been a resident of the Hamshire area since 2004.  After working in the healthcare field for many years, Bertie retired as a nurse’s aide.  

Mrs. Miller is survived by her sons, Leland Johnston and his wife, Sherry Lee, of St. Albans, West Virginia; Frank Johnston and his wife, Ruth, of Sandersville, Mississippi; Ben Johnston and his wife, Nell, of Eunice, Louisiana; and Keith Johnston and his wife, Rebecca, of Hamshire; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Mary Lamore of Celina, Ohio; and numerous other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Annette Fontenot; first husband, LeRoy Johnston; second husband, Dave Miller; son, Vernon Johnston; and brothers, George Winn, Jr., and Julius Winn.

A gathering of Mrs. Miller's family and friends will be Tuesday evening, August 12, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Broussard's, 134 W. Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Hamshire, 25304 Highway 124, Hamshire, followed by burial at Broussard Cemetery in Hamshire.
