Iris Marie Cain Abney

Iris Marie Cain Abney, 86, of Nome, died
Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in
Beaumont. Born March 6, 1928, in
Beaumont, Iris was the daughter of Tula Frances Rhymes Cain and Zee Hoyt
Cain. She was the former owner and
operator of The Basket Case Greenhouse, co-owner of Abney Farms, an active
member of First Baptist Church of Nome and a 4-H leader.
She is survived by her sons, Ken Abney
and his wife, Carolyn; Kerry Abney and his wife, Pat; and Brian Abney and his
wife, Sharon, all of Nome; grandchildren, Brandy Crawford, Brent Abney,
Jennifer Abney, and Jamie Abney; three great-grandchildren, Bryton and Berklee
Abney of Nome and Avery Crawford of Houston.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Conway
Abney; and daughter, Sue Keay.
A gathering of Mrs. Abney’s family and
friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening, July 1, 2014, at
Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.
Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at
Broussard’s, followed by interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made in Mrs. Abney’s name to First Baptist Church of Nome,
Scholarship Fund, P O Box 113, Nome, Texas 77629.
