Kenneth W. K. Haynie, Jr., 88, of Beaumont, died on
Tuesday, May 20, 2014. A native of Beaumont, he was born on May 10, 1926, to
Lena Stephens Haynie and W.K. Haynie, Sr.
He attended local schools and after graduation from
Beaumont High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he
proudly served his country in the Pacific during World War II and was wounded
on Iwo Jima and awarded a Purple Heart Medal.
Ken was married to Betty Lord, the daughter of Judge and
Mrs. O.M. Lord of Beaumont. He graduated from Lamar University with honors and
was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, National Honor Society, and an active life
member of Chapter 1991 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. After
forty-one years of service from Gulf States Utilities Company, he retired as
Art Director in their Advertising Department. After retirement, he enjoyed
fishing, hunting, painting, wood carving, and time spent at time at the beach
house with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years,
Betty; grandson, Josh Dunman and sister, Virginia Singleton.
Survivors include his children, Bill Haynie and his
wife, Kay, of St. Mary’s, Georgia; Jane Whynot of La Porte; Richard Haynie and
his wife, Robin, of Athens; and Mary Sue Buckland of Deer Park; grandchildren,
Rachel Haynie, Chelsea Hughes, Katie Oliver, Michael Haynie, Lauren Haynie, Sam
Haynie, Tess Stedman, David Gibbs, and Adam Gibbs; great-grandchildren, Mary
Jane Dunman and Tyler Scott Dunman; and sister, Frances Rouse.
A gathering of Mr. Haynie’s family and friends will be
from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Broussard’s, 2000
McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday,
May 23, 2014, at Magnolia Cemetery, 2291 Pine Street, Beaumont.
