Bertha
Fertitta, 88, of Beaumont, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Baptist Hospitals of
Southeast Texas, Beaumont. A native and lifelong resident of Beaumont, she was
born on November 26, 1925, in Beaumont, to Leona Darbonne Bonvillion and Wilford
P. Bonvillion.
Bertha
was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She lived life to the fullest, bringing lots
of joy and happiness into this world.
She was a faith filled woman who enjoyed her family and the time they
spent together. Bertha had a passion for living, traveling and meeting people.
She enjoyed playing poker with her friends, line dancing, watching baseball,
basketball and football. She loved the
beach, cooking and taking care of her plants and flowers. Bertha will be missed by so many but will
forever remain in our hearts.
Survivors
include her children, Mike Fertitta and his wife, Luisa, of Lexington,
Massachusetts; Pat Greeley and her husband, Chris, of Newburyport,
Massachusetts; Joanne Weik and her husband, Stan, of San Saba; Mary Beth DeLord
and her husband, Paul, of Nederland; and son-in-law, Randy Frith of Baton
Rouge, Louisiana; grandchildren, Sara Jarvi and her husband, Eric; Dan
Fertitta; Paul Higgs and his wife, Amanda; Dr. Leigh Johnston and her husband,
James; Erick Weik and his wife, Laura; Karl Weik and his wife, Tracy; Jameson
DeLord and his fiancé , Jaime; Katie DeLord; Ryan Frith and his wife, Jessica;
Erin Frith; Alyssa Reeves and her husband, Michael; Adrienne Frith; and Erica
Frith; and eight great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe F. “Slim” Fertitta;
daughter, Kathleen Frith; son-in-law, Bobby Summers; grandson, Christopher
Summers; two sisters; and one brother.
A
gathering of Mrs. Fertitta’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until
8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014, at
Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, at St. Pius X Catholic
Church, 5075 Bigner Road, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn
Memorial Park, Beaumont.
