Roy C. Drake
June 20, 1945 - April 24, 2014
Roy Clinton Drake,
68, of Spurger, left this life and entered into the presence of his Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 24, 2014.
After a three year battle with bone marrow disease God saw that he was
tired and took him home. Roy
was born on June 20, 1945, in Silsbee, to Mae Belle Powell Drake and Roderick
Murrah Drake.
He was a 1963
graduate of Spurger
High School and proudly served
in the United States Army from 1963-1967 during the Vietnam Era. He was employed with Exxon-Mobil for
twenty-eight years and served as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Tyler County
for twenty-four years. Roy
was affiliated with Snow River Lodge #385 AF & AM of Spurger and faithfully
served his community through the Lions Club and Gideon’s International. Roy’s two greatest joys
were building churches through the Assembly of God MAPS program and sharing his
many vegetables he grew each year.
Survivors include
his loving wife of forty-three years, Kathryn “Candy” Drake; children, Amy Williford
and her husband, Calvin; Alan Drake and his wife, Michele; and Angela Slaughter
and her husband, Chris; grandchildren, Hannah and Steven Williford, Baylee and
Audrey Drake, Kieran, Ryan, and Zoe Dunn, and Chris Jr. and Ian Slaughter; great-granddaughter,
Emma Lee Williford; and soon arriving great-grandson, Walker Wayne Williford;
sisters, Simuel Lee Ard of Silsbee and Barbara Osburn and her husband, Kenny, of
Vidor; brothers, George Arthur Drake and his wife, Bobbie Jean, of Silsbee; Harold Drake and his wife, Jean, of
Tarkington; Harvey Drake and his wife, Sissy, of Hull; and Johnny Perry and his
wife, Carol, of Paris. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother,
Robert Carl Drake.
A gathering of Mr.
Drake’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday,
April 26, 2014, at Wiley Mae Pentecostal Church, Highway 92 North, Silsbee,
under the direction of Broussard’s, Silsbee.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the
church, with interment to follow at Franks
